Installation Art
“In 2011 I came to be associated with Star Too, the UAE’s first experimental theatre project. In the period from 2011-2014, we worked on devising original, multi-disciplinary, multi-media theatre productions. This sparked an interest in exploring installation art and in 2014; I created my first immersive video installation ‘The Unmanifested’ at SIKKA Art Fair in collaboration with filmmaker Swapna Kurup. Spurred on by that success, over the last few years I went on to create a small body of work that combines movement, music, video art and technology.”
Shereen’s multifarious training and experience in architecture, business studies, communications and performing arts has molded her multi-disciplinary approach to performing arts. It has also resulted in creative collaborations. Most notable include ‘Silent Conversations’ (2019) her photo-video-AR installation inspired from her association with the Deaf community in the UAE, her avant-garde Virtual Reality work with conceptual artist Patrick Lichty (‘We Are’ 2018) and dance video installations in collaboration with film maker Swapna Kurup (‘The Unmanifested’ 2014, ‘Amorphous’ 2016).
Her attempts to blur the lines between performing and performance art have also led to experiments such as her work in partnership with iconic New York based painter and video artist Judy Rifka (‘INTERactive’ 2016) and a Happening she devised as an extension of her video installation Amorphous at SIKKA Art Fair in 2016.
