Natyalaya

A Solo Bharathanatyam Recital | 2007

A celebration of Indian classical dance, Natyalaya is a solo Bharatanatyam recital incorporating choreographies from the traditional repertoire.

Following the classic path or “margam” of Bharatanatyam, the showcase begins with a Todayam and Ganesha sloka before progressing to Varnam, Padam, Keerthanam and a Thillana.

The show also includes an experimental choreography of Bharatanatyam and Kalaripayattu – the martial arts form of Kerala. The choreography explores not so much the combat techniques but rather the grace and beauty of the form, interspersed with Bharatanatyam to create a fusion of two of the finest movement forms of India.
