Remembering Mina Zayed

Between 14 Oct 2023 and 2 July 2024, I made field recordings of virtuosic bird calls and the incessant hum of construction – two dominant themes permeating the soundscape of Mina Zayed, a nature-claimed neighbourhood on the verge of sweeping gentrification.

Remembering Mina Zayed is a sonic memento of my time in the neighbourhood, walking the deserted streets with one of Mina’s many felines in tow, pausing to listen to the hopeful songs of the Bulbul and the persistent cry of the Grey Francolin, in an ambience live with the steady thrum of construction. A discordant harmony.
