Theatre
“As a classical dancer I was looking for alternative mediums to express as an artist. This is what led me to theatre over a decade ago; in a journey that began with Drama Dubai’s Desert Monologues. Theatre has the power to suspend disbelief, to entertain, inspire, provoke and challenge notions both of ourselves and society. It teaches us to live truthfully in the given moment. To really listen, respond and know what it feels like to be in someone else’s shoes. There is nothing quite as self improving and fulfilling as theatre.”
Since 2009, Shereen has been active in theatre, working on diverse projects across community theatre, professional productions and performing at festivals both in the UAE and India.
As an actor, she believes in an integrated approach that borrows from Eastern and Western schools of thought. She is a LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) certified acting professional and has since 2015 continued to train in ancient Indian theatre practices at Natanakairali – Research Training and Performing Centre for Traditional Arts under veteran Kutiyattam exponent and scholar, Venu G.
Shereen is a founding member of Star Too – Dubai’s first experimental theatre project that follows a laboratory-style methodology where group members engage in training periods leading up to original, stylized productions.
She is also an artist collaborator in Trance-Forms, an initiative of the Emirati-French Cultural Programme: Dialogue with the Louvre Abu Dhabi.
